Set in an alternate 21st-century reality where Korea possesses a royal family, since 1945 to present, this show revolves around the lives of the Crown Prince Lee Shin, and his new bride, Chae-kyeong.
The series starts off with the news that the King, Shin's father, is very ill. With the grim outlook on the King's health, the royal family scrambles to find a wife for Shin, so as to allow him to take over the royal throne if the situation requires. Despite being in love with another girl, the ambitious and talented ballerina Hyo-rin whom Shin initially proposed to (she rejects him to pursue her ballet dreams), Shin eventually marries a commoner to whom he was betrothed by his late grandfather in an old agreement with the girl's grandfather. Shin marries the headstrong yet lovable Chae-kyeong after Hyo-rin's rejection. Despite initially feeling nothing for Chae-kyeong, love eventually blossoms between the couple as time passes.
In the meantime, however, matters are further complicated with the return of Lee Yul and his mother Lady Hwa-Young, who was once the Crown Princess before the death of her husband, the late Crown Prince, older brother of the current King. Yul and his mother were chased out of the palace some time after the death of his father, and it is later revealed that this was due to the King's discovery of an affair between Yul's mother and the current King who was his father's younger brother. Yul's mother had returned with a sinister motive in mind; to restore her son back to the throne, which would have been his eventually, if his father had not died. A series of events befall the palace with the schemes Yul's mother carries out, and is further intensified by the various scandals involving the royal family, which are inclusive of the Shin's continuing relationship with his old flame Hyo-rin, and the budding love Yul develops for Chae-kyeong, his cousin's new-found bride. Things gets out of hand and many incidents happened.

GONG ZHU XIAO MEI.
Adopted by middle classed parents, Xiao Mai has always had a dream to be an heiress. Finally, her dream becomes a reality. Xiao Mai's biological grandfather, Huangfu Xiong (Emp), is the head of a prestigious aristocratic family. After being kidnapped by their family's enemies and after many years of searching, he finally finds his long lost granddaughter.
As she starts her life as an heiress, everyday is filled with excitement; however, everything seems a bit different from what she had imagined it to be. In the family, there are 4 candidates, one of whom will become the successor of Emp. One of those candidates is Nan Feng Jin. At first, Nan Feng Jin dislikes Xiao Mai because he knows that he will be engaged to Xiao Mai and as a result, can never leave the Huangfu family and will be forced to be the successor of Emp.
Because Jin wants to be a normal sales person, he tried his best to ignore his growing fondness for Xiao Mai, but love prevails. Hatred soon turns to love as Xiao Mai and Nan Feng Jin's relationship starts to unravel. But they want to hide their relationship from Emp, a name called by everyone in respect to Xiao Mai's grandfather, because they will be engaged again and Jin's dream of having a normal life will vanish.
Then one day, a new 'Huangfu Shan' appears and has the same birthmark and more evidence that she is the real Huangfu Shan, along with a ring with her birthdate encrypted in it. Xiao Mai and Gong Mo Li, the 'real' Huangfu Shan, have the same interests and birthdates. Xiao Mai then gets kicked out of royalty and becomes a maid in the Huangfu house. But she later discovers the plot between Gong Mo Li and Emp, and more chaos happens. It turns out that Gong Mo Li isn't actually the real granddaughter and isn't in love with Jin, and instead she is in love with Cai. The plot between Gong Mo Li and the Emp was to make Xiao Mai and Jin to confess their love so they can become engaged.
Then the four try to confront Emp, but he keeps hiding, with the help of Butler Yi. But soon they face Emp and tell him that, Xiao Mai doesn't want to be the heiress anymore, Jin and Cai doesn't want to be the successor. Emp becomes furious and lets them do what they want: "starting from scratch", and kicks them out of the house.
Jin keeps getting denied of work, because of Emp's influence. But he soon finds a job, and he becomes a construction worker. Then Cai And Gong Mo Li, who were also kicked out of the Huangfu House, start selling their things to pawnshop but keeps spending their money for useless things. Soon Cai and Gong Mo Li give up and returned to the Huangfu House.
Soon Emp, has an ailment and has to go under operation. He kept his ailment a secret between himself and Butler Yi. Even though his condition is becoming worse, he still doesn't want to go under operation. But when Xiao Mai learned about his ailment and that her grandfather's stubbornness can cause him death, she told Butler Yi that she will take the blame if Emp gets mad about going under operation.
The operation was successful, but Emp is still unconscious. In a few days, if Emp does not wake up, the co-owners of the Huangfu business, will take over. Even though Xiao Mai is the heiress, the co-owners don't believe that women are good enough to run the company. But Xiao Mai still tried her best and took the exams that were taken by Jin and the other 3 (Cai,Ying and Lin). But she failed, fortunately at the time the co-owners are about to say that Xiao Mai failed, Emp has awaken and told them to allow Xiao Mai to become the successor. Xiao Mai ends up being both heiress and successor. Jin remained as an office worker.
Xiao Mai has to go to America for a 3 year long course to learn how to become the successor for Huang Fu Corp. Jin is waiting for his clients to sign his first big contract which he stayed up the night before doing. Emp and the Nan Feng boys (other than Jin) are at the airport sending Xiao Mai off, and as Xiao Mai is walking towards the boarding gate of the plane, Jin finally appears. He calls out Xiao Mai's name, and she smiles and turns. Jin runs towards her and they share a kiss.

Mizuki Ashiya, a Japanese girl living in the United States, watches a program on TV featuring a high jumper named Izumi Sano. She was amazed by his performance and begins following his athletic career. Years later, she does research on him and discovers that he is currently attending Osaka High School. The school is unfortunately an all-boys school and Mizuki convinces her parents to send her to Japan by herself.
